Taste Profile
Covim Granbar is the signature Ho.Re.Ca from Genoa, produced by Covim—a family-run coffee roaster from Liguria founded in 1975 in Genoa by the Bregante family (with prior coffee activity dating back to 1963 according to historical records). Still 100% family-owned, the brand became a SpA (a limited company) in 1974 and specializes in Ho.Re.Ca blends for bars and restaurants in northwestern Italy, exporting to over 40 countries.
A balanced Arabica-Robusta blend for intensive bar/restaurant use, medium-dark roast in the Ligurian style (closer to Neapolitan than Turin). In the cup: intense body , dense hazelnut-cocoa crema, signature notes of cocoa, roasted coffee , and sweet spices . Traditional Genoese coffee : powerful, aromatic, with a more rustic flavor profile than Lavazza's Piedmontese blends. Served in the historic bars of Genoa's port and the Ligurian Riviera.

Meanwhile, in the same vein at Cafemalin : Lavazza Gran Espresso 1 kg (intensity 10/10), Kimbo Prestige 1 kg (intensity 9/10 Neapolitan), Covim Orocrema 1 kg (same brand, cousin crema).
Who is Covim and where is this coffee roaster based?
Covim is an Italian family-owned coffee roaster founded in 1975 in Genoa (Liguria) by the Bregante —who had begun their coffee business as early as 1963, according to historical records. Still 100% family-owned, the brand became a limited company (SpA) in 1974. Specializing in Ho.Re.Ca blends for bars and restaurants in northwestern Italy (Liguria, Piedmont, Aosta Valley), Covim is present in over 40 countries through exports. Their complete range includes Granbar, Orocrema, Prestige, Giadacompatible capsules Blue, and ESE pods.
What is the difference between Covim and Lavazza or Kimbo?
Three distinct Italian schools share the Ho.Re.Ca blends market:
- Lavazza (Turin, Piedmont) — balanced Piedmontese, medium roast, intensity 6-7/10.
- Covim (Genoa, Liguria) — rustic intermediate, more full-bodied than Lavazza, less so than Kimbo. Intensity 7-8/10.
- Kimbo (Naples, Campania) — full-bodied Neapolitan, dark roast, intensity 8-9/10.
- Bristot (Belluno, Veneto) — full-bodied, balanced Venetian, alpine (Dolomites). Intensity 8/10.
Granbar Covim positions itself as a full-bodied, balanced Ligurian wine — an Italian signature accessible to palates that like a blend that is neither too light nor burnt.
Is the Granbar compatible with my bean-to-cup machine?
Yes, all brands : De'Longhi, Jura, Philips, Melitta, Krups, Saeco, Siemens. Recommended settings: medium grind 5/10, dose 9-10 g, temperature 92 °C, extraction 25-30 s. The calibrated Robusta blend develops a very dense hazelnut-cocoa colored crema — an advantage for machines without pre-infusion (Melitta, entry-level Krups).
How many cups can I make with 1 kg of Granbar?
Estimated yield:
- Strong espresso (7g) : ~143 cups.
- Standard espresso (9 g) : ~111 cups.
- Moka coffee maker (12 g) : ~83 cups.
Bar (100 espressos/day): ~1.5 days per kilo. Restaurant (30 cups/day): ~5 days per kilo.
How should I store the 1 kg bag after opening?
Carefully reseal the Covim bag after opening or transfer the grains to an airtight, opaque container. Store at room temperature (18-22°C), away from light and heat sources. Avoid refrigerating (humidity and odor absorption). Best before date for a sealed bag: 18-24 months. Once opened, ideally consume within 3-4 weeks. In a high-volume professional environment, this timeframe is not a constraint (rapid stock turnover).
