Whittington was founded in 1968 in Milan (Italy), with its current headquarters in Baranzate (on the outskirts of Milan). It is an Italian brand of premium teas specializing from the l'orsegments Ho.Re.Ca. and high-end office.

Since 2010, Whittington has been part of the Italian Lavazza — the Turin-based coffee giant. The brand will be over 55 years old in 2026.

No — these are two completely separate companies, not to be confused:

• Whittington — an Italian of premium teas, founded in 1968 in Milan, currently a subsidiary of the Lavazza. This is the brand we distribute at Cafemalin.
• Whittard of Chelsea — a British tea company founded by Walter Whittard in 1886 in London (Fleet Street), with over 50 shops in the UK and in about 30 countries. No financial link with Whittington.

Despite the similarity of names, the two brands have completely different histories, positioning and shareholders .

Whittington teas are selected and blended in Italy (operational headquarters in Milan), using tea leaves sourced from the world's great tea-growing regions :

• India — Assam (robust black tea), Darjeeling (aromatic high-altitude black tea), Nilgiri tea Blue , available organic)
• Sri Lanka — Ceylon (strong black tea, English Breakfast base)
• China — Gunpowder (traditional rolled green tea)
• South Africa — rooibos (caffeine-free "red tea")

Each Whittington reference is numbered according to a system specific to the brand (for example "2 Black Tea", "13 Black Tea", "17 Green Tea" for the Cafemalin ; the general catalogue offers series 100 and 200 with more than 20 references) to facilitate Ho.Re.Ca referencing.
