View the range →The Lavazza adventure began in 1895 in Turin, when Luigi Lavazza, a passionate young grocer from Piedmont, opened a small shop on Via San Tommaso. At the time, coffees were still sold by separate origin—each with its own characteristics but also its flaws. Luigi observed that by blending several origins, a richer, more balanced, and more consistent aromatic profile was obtained: the multi-origin blend was born, an invention that would define modern Italian espresso.
From the 1930s, Lavazza industrialized its roasting process and developed the first vacuum-packed coffee to preserve its aroma. After World War II, the third generation (Emilio, Beppe, and Pericle Lavazza) accelerated expansion: first throughout Italy, then in Europe, and finally on the global market in the 1970s and 80s. In 1979, the advertising campaign "Il più amato dagli italiani" (The most beloved by Italians) definitively established Lavazza as the number one coffee brand in Italy's B2C market.
Today, Lavazza distributes its coffee in over 90 countries , generates revenue exceeding €2.5 billion , and remains a family business run by the 6th generation (Marco and Giuseppe Lavazza). The brand is an official sponsor of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments (Wimbledon, Roland-Garros, US Open, Australian Open), operates the Nuvola Lavazza Museum in Turin, and is progressively aligning its sourcing with Rainforest Alliance certifications through the Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation .
What has defined Lavazza since 1895: 4 pillars of expertise which explain the No. 1 positioning in Italy B2C and the global reach.
Signature Lavazza since 1895: balanced blend of ~15 origins (Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, India…) for each blend, guaranteeing consistency in cup and aromatic complexity impossible to obtain in single origin.
Slow roasting in Turin (~15 min) preserves the essential oils and develops the crema . The finest terroirs are selected within the Lavazza Training Center by the Qualità Prima.
A Modo Mio (2007, home), Blue (2004, Ho.Re.Ca.), Espresso Point (90s, industrial), Firma (premium office/home). Each system is patented and designed for a specific use.

Lavazza was founded in 1895 in Turin (Italy) by Luigi Lavazza, a passionate grocer from Piedmont. It was at his home, on Via San Tommaso in Turin, that he invented the concept of the multi-origin blend — a balanced mixture of several coffees from different countries — which would become the signature of modern Italian espresso.
The brand will thus celebrate its more than 130 years in 2026, while remaining a family business run today by the 6th generation of the Lavazza family.
Lavazza is roasted in Italy, mainly in the historic factories of Turin and Gattinara (Piedmont). The green beans are sourced from more than 20 producing countries (Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, India, Honduras, Guatemala…), selected within the Lavazza Training Center in Turin by the Qualità Prima.
The blend is then composed and roasted using the slow Italian method (approximately 15 minutes of roasting), which preserves the essential oils and develops the crema . Each blend is packaged in a protected atmosphere or under vacuum to maintain freshness.
Lavazza offers 4 proprietary capsule systems, each designed for a specific use:
In addition to this, there are the aluminum capsules compatible with Nespresso Original (Maestro Classico, Maestro Lungo, Ristretto) — but which are not a proprietary Lavazza system.
The two systems are NOT compatible with each other — each capsule only works with the dedicated machine.
In summary: A Modo Mio for home, Blue for the office or restaurant. A machine can only read one type of capsule.
Yes. Lavazza sells several certified organic and fair :
More broadly, Lavazza is progressively committing all of its sourcing towards Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certifications , with a target of 100% of packaged coffee being sustainably certified by 2030.
The choice depends on your machine and your intended use :
In terms of pure cup quality, freshly ground coffee beans remain superior to capsules. However, in terms of convenience and consistency, capsules win.
