The A Modo Mio system and the Idola machine

The A Modo Mio system is Lavazza 's capsule system for home use, launched in 2007. Each capsule contains up to 7.5 g of coffee and only works in an A Modo Mio : a format unique to Lavazza, which is neither that of its professional systems machine Lavazza Blue and Espresso Point , nor that of Nespresso®.

Our machine is theIdola, designed in-house by Lavazza in Turin and winner of the Red Dot Design Award : the jury praised its precise manufacturing and attention to detail. Its one-piece casing minimizes visible seams; it measures 14.5 cm wide, reaches temperature in 28 seconds , and brews a coffee in approximately 35 seconds. Lavazza describes it as compact and quiet.

Four touch-sensitive buttons with audible signals: espresso (30 ml), espresso lungo (45 ml), long coffee (90 ml), and dose, plus a Boost for hotter coffee. It features a removable 1.1 L, a container for 10 used capsules, low water, full, and descaling indicators, and automatic shut-off after 9 minutes. The Idola does not have a steam wand ; a separate milk frother is required for cappuccinos.

On the capsule side, the Lavazza A Modo Mio range goes from Passionale , our best seller, to Soave , Delizioso , Intenso , Dolce and the decaffeinated DEK Cremoso ; Lavazza cups complete the service.

Does the Idola make cappuccinos?

No: the Idola is an espresso machine , without a steam wand or integrated frother. It prepares espresso, espresso lungo, and long coffee. For a cappuccino or latte, froth the milk with a separate frother, then pour it over an espresso prepared with the Idola.

Did Idola really receive the Red Dot Award?

Yes. The Lavazza Idola is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award, manufactured by Lavazza (Turin) and designed in-house by Florian Seidl. The jury praised its precise manufacturing and attention to detail. It also received theiF Design Award.

The Red Dot specification describes a one-piece outer shell, which reduces visible seams, a large, easily accessible transparent reservoir, a metal grid drip tray, and a height-adjustable cup holder.

How do I maintain my Lavazza A Modo Mio machine?

According to the Idola user manual:

  • Capsule container and drip tray — empty as soon as the full tray indicator lights up; all removable parts are dishwasher safe.
  • Reservoir — fresh, potable and non-carbonated water, to be renewed after 3 days of non-use.
  • Descaling — requested by the machine (dedicated light), generally every 2 to 3 months: Lavazza recommends its descaler and excludes vinegar.
  • Bodywork — soft, damp cloth, never use solvents or alcohol.
