Organic Coffee Beans

coffee beans are coffee grown, processed, and transported according to European Regulation 2018/848 on organic farming. This implies:

• Zero synthetic pesticides — only plant protection products of natural origin (e.g., copper, sulfur) are permitted, and in limited quantities.
• Zero chemical fertilizers — fertilization with compost, organic matter, green manure
• Agroecological practices — crop rotation, shade, soil protection, biodiversity preservation
• Annual certification — audit by an independent body (Ecocert, Certisys…)
• Complete traceability — from field to roasting and transport

The AB (French Organic Agriculture) label or the Euroleaf (EU) are visible on the packaging to guarantee this conformity.

Organic coffee costs approximately 30% more than conventional coffee for several reasons combined:

• Lower yields — without chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides, production per hectare is 1.5 to 2 times lower than with conventional methods
• Annual certification — audits, documentation, traceability represent a recurring cost for the producer
• Organic producer premium — compensates for the conversion (3-year period without organic income) and the maintenance of organic practices
• Shorter and more transparent supply chains — cooperatives, direct purchasing, reduced intermediaries
• Global volume still limited — organic coffee represents ~5% of global coffee production, resulting in fewer economies of scale

This additional cost is redistributed to producers and certification — it is a committed choice, not an additional margin for the roaster.

The ¡Tierra! — in French Voix de la Terre (, in Italian Voci della Terra — is Lavazza's sustainability program launched in 2002 by the Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation. It is based on three commitments:

• EU organic certification — 100% Arabica crops grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers
• Rainforest Alliance Certification — protection of tropical forests, biodiversity, decent working conditions
• Local development projects — funding for schools, clinics, infrastructure in producing communities (Central America, Brazil, Ethiopia, Vietnam)

This blend combines several Arabica origins in an aromatic balance (chocolate, flowers, red fruits) that appeals to all palates. Produced and roasted in Italy by Lavazza (Turin).

The choice of format depends on your consumption volume and storage capacity :

• 1 kg (€27.40) — best-seller, ideal for home (1-3 cups/day) or small office. Approximately 40-50 espressos per bag. Consumed in 1-2 months.
• 3 kg (€79.73) — average office (5-15 cups/day), high-consumption family, occasional café/bistro. Approximately 120-150 espressos. Consumed in 2-3 months (savings -3% compared to 3 x 1 kg).
• 6 kg (€154.52) — Ho.Re.Ca., restaurant, hotel, mensae, large coffee house. Approximately 240-300 espressos (savings -6% compared to 6 × 1 kg).

Tip: prefer several small 1kg bags rather than one large format if you consume slowly — the freshness of the grain decreases 4-6 weeks after opening.

Organic certification guarantees a production method that respects the environment and producers, but not necessarily superior taste . The quality in the cup depends on multiple factors:

• Variety of Arabica (Typica, Bourbon, Caturra…)
• Origin and terroir of the plantation
• Post-harvest processing method (washed, natural, honey…)
• Freshness from roasting and bagging
• roasting (time/temperature curve)
