Carte Noire Classique instant coffee in a 500 g pack, Lavazza Expert cappuccino sticks in Classique and Noisette varieties, and Lavazza chocolate in 50 sachets: prepare with hot water, without a machine.
Soluble coffee, or instant coffee, is coffee that has already been extracted and then dried. The extract is dehydrated by spray-drying, which dries it in a stream of hot air, or by freeze-drying, a cold drying process under vacuum that preserves aromas better and costs more: this is the process used for Carte Noire Classique. The granules dissolve in hot water in a few seconds, without a machine.
The category brings together three drinks:
Instant coffee accounts for a significant share of global coffee consumption. In France, consumption remains more modest, as the country favours coffee beans and ground coffee, but it still has its place wherever there is no espresso machine: offices, break rooms and when travelling.
These products keep for a long time when stored in a dry place with the packaging tightly resealed; the best-before date appears on each pack.

The questions our customers ask most often.
Soluble coffee, or instant coffee, is made by extracting roasted, ground coffee with hot water, then drying this extract:
The granules or powder dissolve in hot water in a few seconds, without a machine.
Coffee beans, ground just before extraction, retain more aroma: an espresso is extracted under pressure in 25 to 30 seconds and has a crema. Instant coffee loses some of its volatile aromas during drying, less with freeze-drying than with spray-drying, and has no crema.
In return, it can be prepared without a machine, keeps for a long time and requires little coffee per cup: approximately 2 g, compared with 7 g for an espresso.
Empty a stick into a cup or drinking cup, add 15 cl of hot water, or hot milk for a creamier cup, then stir: the powder dissolves in a few seconds. Each stick already contains instant coffee, skimmed milk powder, cocoa and sugar; the Noisette version also contains hazelnut flavourings. Classique is sold in a box of 10 sticks (3,80 €, or 0,38 € per cappuccino).
For anyone drinking black coffee without an espresso machine:
The 500 g pack (25,50 €) makes approximately 250 cups, at 2 g per cup. Carte Noire is a French brand and has been part of the Lavazza group since 2016.
