Lavazza Blue — abbreviated LB — is the proprietary aluminum capsule system launched by Lavazza in the early 2000s, positioned between the consumer market (A Modo Mio, plastic) and the purely professional HoReCa market (Espresso Point, plastic). The idea: to bring authentic Italian espresso to offices, hotels, and restaurants, with the simplicity of capsules and the preserved aroma of aluminum.
The Lavazza Blue capsule is made of multi-layered aluminum , hermetically sealed to guarantee optimal aroma preservation (12-24 months shelf life). It contains 7 to 9 grams of ground coffee, depending on the blend, extracted under 9-15 bars of pressure for a creamy Italian espresso. The capsule range includes more than 15 blends — Crema e Aroma , Amabile , Intenso , Decaffeinato —as well as the Tales of Venezia, Milano, Roma, and Napoli collections , which celebrate Italian coffee traditions. Descaling is essential for optimal extraction quality and machine lifespan. Recommended frequency:
LB300 / LB 2310 procedure : (1) pour the descaling mixture + water into the reservoir (see dosage on the instructions), (2) run a cycle without a capsule to rinse the brewing circuit, (3) repeat 2-3 times with clear water to remove any residue, (4) allow to cool for 15 minutes before next use.
Use the official Lavazza descaler or a universal descaler compatible with aluminum and brass. Tip: a Brita water filter or low-mineral mineral water reduces the frequency of descaling by half.
