At Cafemalin, our selection prioritizes 4 historic brands specializing in Nespresso® Original compatible capsules:

• Lavazza — Maestro aluminium range (Classico, Lungo, Ristretto) — the best-selling reference on cafemalinwith over 1,900 cumulative sales.
• Carte Noire — Original Espresso (No. 6 Lungo, No. 7 Classic, No. 9 Intense) 100% Arabica.
• Illy — signature 100% Arabica blend (Espresso Classico, Forte, Lungo Intenso, Decaffeinato).
• Kimbo — Neapolitan espresso (Barista, Ristretto, Napoli).

Other brands like Bristot or L'Or also offer compatible Nespresso capsules — we regularly add new references depending on demand and available stock.

No — only Nespresso® Original machines. There are two distinct ranges of Nespresso machines:

• Nespresso® Original — capsule format D 37 mm × H 26 mm, 19 bar pressure. Models: Essenza Mini, CitiZ, Pixie, Lattissima, Creatista, Krups Nespresso, De'Longhi Nespresso. All our compatible capsules work with these machines.
• Nespresso® Vertuo — larger capsule format with barcode, centrifugal extraction. Models: Vertuo Next, Vertuo Plus, Vertuo Pop. Our compatible capsules do NOT work with these machines — only official Nespresso Vertuo capsules are compatible.

If you are unsure about your model: check for the "Original" or "Vertuo" marking on the front of the machine, or consult the user manual.

Three major differences:

• Price — compatible capsules are generally 20 to 40% cheaper per capsule than official Nespresso capsules, with equivalent cup quality for major brands (Lavazza, illy, Carte Noire).
• Aromatic diversity — each roaster (Lavazza, illy, Kimbo, Carte Noire) brings its aromatic signature . You have access to Italian, Neapolitan, or French blends that Nespresso® does not offer.
• Material — Lavazza Maestro and Carte Noire are made of capsules aluminum (the same material as l'orNespresso original ), therefore recyclable via aluminum recycling channels.

The official Nespresso® espresso remains an excellent product, but compatible capsules broaden the choice to try other brands and blends at a more affordable price.

It depends on your consumption and your willingness to try several varieties:

• 10 capsules — tasting. Ideal for trying a blend or brand before ordering in bulk. Higher unit cost per capsule, but low commitment (offered by illy).
• 30 capsules — regular. Approximately 3 to 4 weeks for a household drinking 1-2 cups/day. Good value for money, best-selling size at Carte Noire and Kimbo.
• 100 capsules (10 x 10) — best-selling economy. Approximately 3 months for an average household. Savings ~15-20% per capsule vs. 10 capsules. Lavazza Maestro.

Tip : start with 10 illy capsules or a box of 30 Carte Noire to discover a new blend, then move on to the 100 Lavazza capsule format once you have identified your favorite.

For a traditional Italian espresso — dense crema, generous body, notes of cocoa and dried fruit — our recommendation according to your profile:

• Lavazza Maestro Classico — absolute best-seller Cafemalin (1,369 units sold), a balanced Arabica-Robusta blend, intensity 9/13. 100 recyclable aluminum capsules. The default choice.
• Lavazza Ristretto — more full-bodied, intensity 11/13. Ideal for lovers of strong Italian espresso.
• Kimbo Napoli — Neapolitan espresso , intensity 11-12/13. Powerful blend, Neapolitan roast.

For a finer and more aromatic 100% Arabica espresso : illy Espresso Classico (100% Arabica Italian blend, intensity 7/13). For a well-rounded French espresso: Carte Noire No. 9 Intense .

It depends on the material :

• Aluminum (Lavazza Maestro, Carte Noire Espresso Original, some Kimbo capsules) — infinitely recyclable. Since 2022, emptied aluminum capsules have been accepted in the yellow recycling bin in France (extended recycling program). Otherwise: aluminum recycling channels or the dedicated Nespresso® recycling program.
• Food-grade plastic (some historical ranges) — recyclability varies depending on the type of plastic and local supply chains.
• Bioplastic / compostable — underrepresented in our current Nespresso-compatible selection.

For optimal environmental responsibility : choose aluminum capsules (Lavazza Maestro, Carte Noire) and dispose of used capsules, emptied of their grounds, in aluminum recycling programs. The coffee grounds can be composted or used as fertilizer.

Yes, compatible capsules meet the same mechanical tolerances as original Nespresso® capsules (dimensions, 19-bar pressure, water flow). A well-designed compatible capsule (Lavazza, illy, Carte Noire, Kimbo) will not damage your machine.

Pointto check to avoid any problems:

• The material (preferably aluminum or certified food-grade plastic) — avoid unnamed low-cost capsules.
• Nespresso® Original compatibility only ( Nespresso® Vertuo machines use a proprietary barcode system — no compatible capsules work on them).
• Regular descaling of your machine (independent of the capsule used).

The Nespresso® manufacturer's warranty may mention the exclusive use of original capsules, but in practice, reasonable use of recognized compatible capsules does not pose a problem of wear.
