- Before first use: run 0,5 L of water through without a capsule, in two cycles using the free-flow button, as specified in the Lavazza instruction manual.
- Water tank: use fresh, still drinking water, never filling above the MAX mark; empty, rinse and refill after 3 days without use.
- Capsule container and drip tray: empty when the full-container indicator lights up; the used capsule drops into the container when you raise and then lower the lever.
- Cleaning: all removable parts are dishwasher-safe; clean the casing with a soft, damp cloth, never with solvents or alcohol.
- Descaling: prompted by the machine (dedicated indicator light), usually every 2 to 3 months: 250 ml of Lavazza descaler + 250 ml of water, a container holding at least 0,5 L under the coffee spout, followed by two rinse cycles. Never use vinegar.

Which capsules does the Lavazza Idola take?
Lavazza A Modo Mio capsules only: the A Modo Mio capsule has its own shape. At Cafemalin:
- Passionale (our bestseller), Soave, Delizioso, Intenso and Dolce;
- DEK Cremoso for decaf;
- a discovery pack you can customise with these coffees.
Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Lavazza Blue and Espresso Point capsules are not compatible.
How does it differ from the other Idola colours?
At Cafemalin, the Idola comes in two finishes: Greige (this listing), a grey with beige undertones, and Black. The technical specifications are identical: the same buttons, the same 1,1 L water tank and the same 28 seconds to heat up. The choice is purely aesthetic.
Does the Idola make cappuccino?
No: the Idola is an espresso machine, with no steam wand or built-in milk frother. It makes espresso (30 ml), espresso lungo (45 ml), long coffee (90 ml) and a free-flow serving. For a cappuccino or latte, froth the milk with a separate frother, then pour it over an espresso made with the Idola.
How do you programme the volume for a button?
According to the Lavazza instruction manual: with a capsule inserted and a cup under the coffee spout, press and hold the button you want to programme. After around 3 seconds, the other buttons flash and a beep signals programming mode. Keep holding the button until the desired volume is reached, then release it: the volume is saved. The last programmed volume is retained after a power cut.
What does the Boost button do?
It gives you hotter coffee. Press Boost before brewing: the machine beeps and the button lights up more brightly. Press it again to return to the standard temperature. The temperature cannot be changed during dispensing.
What maintenance is required?
Simple maintenance, with reminders from the machine itself:
- Capsule container and drip tray — empty when the full-container indicator lights up; all removable parts are dishwasher-safe.
- Water tank — use fresh, still water and replace it after 3 days without use.
- Descaling — prompted by an indicator light, usually every 2 to 3 months: Lavazza recommends its own descaler and rules out vinegar.
- Casing — use a soft, damp cloth, never solvents or alcohol.
What is the Lavazza A Modo Mio system?
Lavazza A Modo Mio is Lavazza's capsule system for the home, launched in 2007: a dedicated machine, one capsule per cup, up to 7,5 g of coffee per capsule. The A Modo Mio capsule only fits A Modo Mio machines.
Lavazza has two other systems for offices and food service: Lavazza Blue and Espresso Point, whose capsules are not interchangeable with A Modo Mio capsules.
