The choice depends on your daily volume and your budget :

• Y3.3 Home — household 1-2 cups/day, the most compact and affordable in the range. 0.75 L water tank. Iperespresso Home capsule.
• X7.1 Home — 2-5 cups/day, standard size, versatile. Classic Italian black/white/red design. Iperespresso Home capsule.
• X7.1 Professional — office, Ho.Re.Ca., continuous heating, reinforced tank, more robust boiler. Professional Iperespresso capsule (note: different from Home).
• X1 Anniversary — the iconic high-end illy. Black round box design with Anniversary logo circles. Two versions: (a) Iperespresso pure (Stainless Steel or Red, 8 capsules included), (b) ESE compatible + Ground Coffee (versatile, with Iperespresso adapter included).

If in doubt: the X1 Anniversary, compatible with ESE and ground coffee, offers the greatest versatility (3 formats accepted). The Y3.3 is the best value for money for an isolated fireplace.

The two Iperespresso illy capsule formats are differentiated but use the same 3-phase technology:

• Iperespresso Home : standard format 18 capsules per box, calibrated for Y3.3, X7.1 Home, X1 Anniversary machines . Classico, Intenso, Decaf roasts.
• Iperespresso Professional : 30 capsules per pack, calibrated for the X7.1 Professional only. Grind density and mechanical resistance adapted for continuous heating and intensive use. Classico and Decaf roasts.

Important: The two formats are NOT interchangeable. A Home capsule will not work correctly in a Professional capsule (and vice versa). Consult your machine's instruction manual to identify the compatible format. See our complete Iperespresso capsule catalog.

The Iperespresso is a patented 3-phase extraction system by illy. Unlike a classic espresso (constant 9-bar pressure), it works as follows:

1. Hyperinfusion — hot water under pressure pre-wets the ground coffee in the capsule for a few seconds. The oils and aromas begin to be released.
2. Emulsion — true extraction under 9-15 bars of pressure produces a concentrated espresso with intense aromas.
3. Decompression — the pressure drops abruptly as the coffee passes into the second chamber of the capsule (a unique feature of Iperespresso). This variation creates a dense and persistent crema, up to 2 to 3 times longer lasting than a classic espresso.

The result in the cup: a smooth crema, full-bodied aromas, and an unmistakable illy signature. The system works only with official Iperespresso capsules.

Descaling depends on the hardness of your water and theintensity of use :

• Very hard water (North, East, Île-de-France): every 2 to 3 months or 300-400 cups.
• Medium hard water : every 4 to 6 months or 500-600 cups.
• Soft or filtered water : every 6 to 8 months or 800+ cups.

Illy recommends using their official descaler or a universal descaler compatible with aluminum and brass boilers. Typical procedure: (1) pour the mixture into the tank, (2) run a cycle without a capsule to rinse, (3) repeat twice with clean water.

Sustainability tip: install a Brita water filter or use low mineral water (dry residue < 100 mg/L) to halve the frequency of descaling.

It depends on the exact model :

• X1 Anniversary Eco Mode (Stainless Steel or Red): Iperespresso Home only. Iconic round box design, 8 capsules included.
• X1 Anniversary Compatible ESE and Ground Coffee (Black, versatile): accepts 3 formats — (a) 44 mm ESE , (b) ground coffee directly into the filter holder, (c) Iperespresso Home capsules with theincluded adapter.

The ESE + ground coffee compatible offers the best versatility : you can use your illy capsules, but also freshly ground coffee from any brand (Lavazza, Bristot, Delta, etc.) or opened ESE pods. Ideal for coffee lovers who want to try different blends.
