Iperespresso is the proprietary capsule launched by illy in 1996.Its specificity lies in the capsule itself: a double chamber (compression chamber + emulsion chamber) which causes a double emulsion of the coffee during extraction — step 1: pressurized water meets the coffee in the first chamber; step 2: the pre-espresso meets the air in the second chamber, creating the signature dense illy foam.

The result in the cup : the crema is denser, more persistent, and more stable than a classic espresso—it stays in the cup for several minutes without collapsing. This is the signature differentiator of illy compared to other capsule systems.

Two ranges :

• Iperespresso Home (this product) — for domestic machines (X7.1, Y3.3, X1 Anniversary…).
• Iperespresso Professional — for professional machines (office, hotel). Different capsules, not interchangeable.

The illy X7.1 Home is available in 3 colors to suit different kitchens:

The technical specifications are identical : 1250 W, 15 bars, 1 L tank, dimensions W 13 × D 30 × H 27 cm. The choice is purely aesthetic.

The X7.1 does not have a built-in steam wand. To prepare a cappuccino or latte at home, there are two solutions:

1. illy separate electric milk frother — MilkFrother X1 illy or generic equivalent (Aeroccino, Bodum). Heats and froths milk in 2 minutes. Pour the froth over the illy espresso — ready-made cappuccino.
2. Hand whisk + microwave — heat 150 mL of whole milk in the microwave for about 1 minute, then whisk with an inexpensive battery-operated milk frother. A simple and economical solution.

For an automatic cappuccino with integrated steam nozzle, consider other models in the illy range (Y3.3 with Milk-Frother included) or the Lavazza AMM Idola system (integrated steam nozzle).

Simple maintenance , suitable for premium home use:

• Emptying the used capsule container — every 8-10 espressos.
• Water tank refill — every ~12-15 espressos.
• Descaling — every 3-6 months depending on local water hardness (indicator light on the machine). Use the official illy descaling kit or a universal descaler compatible with capsule coffee machines.
• Exterior cleaning — damp microfiber cloth on the black finish (avoid abrasive products that dull the shine).
