illy Iperespresso Decaf Home — 90 capsules (5 boxes of 18)

Iperespresso is illy's proprietary capsule system , launched in 2005 and refined since then. Its technical signature : the double-chamber capsule .

1. Pre-infusion chamber — the ground coffee is moistened at low pressure to gently release the aromas.
2. Hyperbaric extraction chamber — high-pressure extraction (~19 bars) to produce the signature dense illy cream.

The result in the cup: a very dense, dark crema, more persistent than a classic espresso with a 6-7g dose. This system is unique to illy and is not cross-compatible with other capsules — an illy Iperespresso machine (see X7.1, X1 Anniversary).

illy Iperespresso offers two distinct capsule formats :

• HOME format (this product) — smaller capsule , ~6.7g dose, designed for illy home machines (X7.1, Y3.3, Y5, X1 Anniversary). Sold here in packs of 5 boxes of 18 capsules.

illy uses a natural decaffeination process to preserve the aromas of the original Classico blend as much as possible. The exact process is not explicitly documented publicly by illy for the Iperespresso Decaf line — classic methods of natural coffee decaffeination include:

• Supercritical CO₂ — selective extraction of caffeine by pressurized CO₂, very respectful of aromas.
• Water (Swiss Water Process) — extraction by immersion and filtration, without chemical solvents.

What matters in the cup: the coffee retains the signature milk chocolate, dried fruit and floral notes of the illy 100% Arabica blend, with a residual caffeine < 0.1% in accordance with European regulations (EU standard 96/2/EC for decaffeinated coffee).

Exactly 90 decaffeinated espressos — each capsule = 1 cup. Estimated battery life:

• Household 1 decaf/day (after meals only) — ~90 days, or 3 months.
• Household 2 decaf/day (couple, evening coffee) — ~45 days, or ~1.5 months.
• Intensive outbreak 3 decaf/day (person strictly avoiding caffeine) — ~30 days, or 1 month.
• Waiting room for a private practice, 5 decaf/day — ~18 days.

Iperespresso plastic capsules are very stable : each sealed capsule isolates the ground coffee (no contact with air or moisture). Good storage practices:

• Room temperature (15-25 °C) — not a refrigerator (potential humidity).
• Protected from direct light (sunlight, powerful fluorescent lights).
• Each box of 18 should be kept sealed until opened. Once opened, ideally consume within 2-3 months for optimal flavor.

Suggested best before date: ~18 months from roasting (date on packaging). After this date, the capsules remain consumable with a slight loss of aroma.
