Classico is the medium roast of illy's 100% Arabica blend, a blend of nine Arabicas. illy rates it 5 out of 9 for intensity and describes it as having a mild, velvety taste, delicate notes of caramel, orange blossom and jasmine, and a mild finish. The Iperespresso capsule extracts this coffee in two stages, hyper-infusion followed by emulsification, for a thick, velvety, long-lasting crema.

Which machines can you use these capsules with?
Only for illy Iperespresso machines: illy states that its Iperespresso capsules work only with its Iperespresso machines. In its current range, these are the X7.1, the Y3.3 and the Iperespresso version of the X1 Anniversary ECO Mode (the X1 Anniversary for E.S.E. pods and ground coffee does not accept them).
They do not fit Nespresso, A Modo Mio or Dolce Gusto machines. View illy machines.
What does Classico taste like?
illy rates Classico 5 out of 9 for intensity. It is the medium roast of its 100% Arabica blend, described as having a mild, velvety taste, delicate notes of caramel, orange blossom and jasmine, and a mild finish.
illy also offers it as Lungo, with a coarser grind for a longer cup; the caffeine-free Décaféiné, also rated 5 out of 9, has notes of caramel, chocolate and toast.
How does an Iperespresso capsule work?
The capsule is a small extraction chamber. The coffee is first hyper-infused, which develops its body and aromas, then emulsified, which forms a thick, velvety and lasting crema: illy describes this two-stage process as patented.
One capsule makes one espresso: it cannot be reused.
How many espressos per box?
18 capsules for 18 espressos. illy states a net weight of 120,6 g for the box, approximately 6,7 g of coffee per capsule. For regular use, the Classico pack of 90 capsules contains five boxes of 18.
How should you store the capsules?
illy recommends keeping them in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place, away from sunlight and heat. The capsules are packed in a protective atmosphere; once the box is open, illy recommends using them preferably within 15 days.
How do you recycle the capsules?
Iperespresso capsules are made of plastic. illy advises putting them in plastic recycling collections, or a dedicated collection scheme where one exists: follow your local council's recycling guidelines. The coffee grounds can be composted.
