illy Iperespresso Classico — 18 capsules

Iperespresso is illy's proprietary system, patented in 2007, which uses a capsule with 2 separate chambers to reproduce the quality of a professional barista espresso at home:

• Chamber 1 — high-pressure pre-infusion — hot water penetrates the ground coffee at controlled pressure, developing the soluble aromas upstream.
• Chamber 2 — oil emulsion — the pre-brewed coffee passes through an emulsion system that foams the natural oils of the coffee, producing the signature illy crema — thick, frothy, persistent golden hazelnut color.

The result: a smooth espresso with a dense crema, impossible to reproduce with standard single-chamber systems (Nespresso, compatible capsules). The Iperespresso system is exclusive to illy — no third-party roaster has the right to manufacture Iperespresso capsules.

Three different systems, incompatible with each other:

• illy Iperespresso (this ref.) — 2 patented chambers, plastic capsules, 7g dose. Exclusively illy. Exceptional crema. illy X1/X7.1/Y3.3/Y5 machines.
• Nespresso Original — 1 standard chamber, aluminum capsules, 5-6 g dose. Nestlé System. Nespresso Original machines.
• Nespresso-compatible capsules — respect the Nespresso Original geometry. Manufactured by illy, Kimbo, Lavazza, Carte Noire, etc. Work on Nespresso Original machines.

illy offers its blends in two parallel systems : Iperespresso (illy's premium native coffee) and compatible with Nespresso (for households already equipped with Nespresso machines). Both use the same 9-origin Arabica blend , but the Iperespresso produces a denser crema thanks to its two chambers.

The entire illy range of machines since 2007 uses the Iperespresso system:

illy offers 4 roasts in the Iperespresso system, all based on the signature 100% Arabica blend from 9 origins :

• Classico (this ref.) — classic medium roast, notes of milk chocolate, caramel, white flowers. The illy signature blend.
• Intenso — darker roast, notes of dark chocolate and cocoa. Full-bodied version.
• Strong — dark roast, intense toasted/spice notes. The most full-bodied.
• Decaffeinated — same blend decaffeinated by water extraction (illy signature method preserving aromas).

Recommendation: Classico for balanced all-terrain use (this reference = 453 sales rank top illy Iperespresso).

18 espressos per box, 7g dose per capsule (compared to 5-6g for Nespresso). A household drinking 2 cups/day will last approximately 9 days, while a heavy household drinking 4 cups/day will last approximately 4-5 days. The format is slightly more generous than Nespresso capsules.

Best before date 12-18 months, store at room temperature away from light. Food-grade plastic — recycle via illy TerraCycle program (free prepaid shipping) or through your local plastic packaging recycling program. illy is working on a compostable capsule for future product lines.
