Taste Profile
Lavazza Crema&Aroma Gran Espresso Point is the historical benchmark for Lavazza office/Ho.Re.Ca coffees—the blend that the Turin-based roaster launched in 1989 to equip tens of thousands of French and European businesses. Its balanced Arabica-Robusta (South American Arabica + Vietnamese/Indian Robusta for the crema) and medium roast are specifically calibrated to deliver a dense and long-lasting crema in a professional environment: intensive use, variations in ambient temperature, rapid preheating, and consistent extraction cup after cup. In the cup: a full, abundant and persistent crema, and dominant notes of milk chocolate, roasted hazelnut , and toasted cereals. The universally appealing office blend that satisfies the majority of employees without polarizing them —which is precisely why Lavazza has kept it in its catalog for over 35 years.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lavazza Espresso Point (EP) system?
The Espresso Point (EP) was launched by Lavazza in 1989 for the HoReCa (hotels, restaurants, offices). It was the first widely distributed professional capsule coffee system in Europe, preceding the A Modo Mio system Blue (1999). The capsules are made of cylindrical, food-grade plastic with a proprietary Lavazza design, packaged in boxes of 100 for high-volume consumption. It is estimated that more than 500,000 EP machines are in operation in Europe today: offices, waiting rooms, hotels, medical practices, and SMEs. The system continues to be actively supported by Lavazza with regular updates to its blends.
Which machines accept Espresso Point capsules?
All Lavazza Espresso Point machines : EP MiniClass, EP Tiny, EP2100, EP2100i, EP2200, EP2300, EP1800, EP800, Pininfarina , as well as Lavazza professional models and OEM machines under private labels. Not compatible with Lavazza A Modo Mio (consumer), Lavazza Blue (high-end professional), Nespresso, or Dolce Gusto — the capsule geometries and extraction parameters are physically incompatible.
How long does it take to consume 100 capsules in an office setting?
Estimates for an average office:
- Office for 5 people — 10 coffees/day: ~10 days per box.
- Office 15 people — 30 coffees/day: ~3-4 days per box.
- Office 30 people — 60 coffees/day: ~1.5 days per box.
- Restaurant lunch service — 80-120 coffees/day: ~1 day per box.
For intensive use, plan for 2-4 boxes per week and consider a recurring subscription contract (contact Cafemalin pro service).
Difference between Crema&Aroma "Espresso Point" and "Gran Espresso Point"?
Both products correspond to the same Crema&Aroma aromatic profile in the Lavazza EP system, with distinct packaging and product generation :
- Gran Espresso Point Crema&Aroma (this product, #1488) — newer packaging with the name "Gran".
- Espresso Point Crema&Aroma (#1581) — historic EP packaging.
Machine compatibility and aromatic profile are identical. Selection depends on stock availability/price at any given time.
Does the EP machine require a service contract?
No, there is no mandatory contract. EP machines can be purchased outright (through Cafemalin or resellers) or installed via a management contract (Lavazza professional operator). The professional contract typically includes: regular capsule delivery, six-monthly preventative maintenance, and 48-hour after-sales service. For home or small office use, outright purchase is generally more economical in the long run.
Are EP capsules recyclable?
EP capsules are made of food-grade plastic. Recycling them is more complex than for aluminum: Lavazza offers dedicated collection points for businesses under a professional contract, with material recovery (grinding, separation of grounds and plastic, reuse). For household recycling, most local authorities do not yet accept small plastic coffee containers—check with your local council or waste management authority. Best before date: 12-18 months from the production date, store at room temperature.
