Taste Profile
Gold Selection is the premium 100% Arabica in the Lavazza range of whole bean coffees. A top-of-the-range : Arabica beans from Central America (Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador) and Ethiopia, a refined medium that preserves delicate aromas without burning the beans. The result in the cup: a smooth, well-rounded, and floral —with notes of white flowers, acacia honey , and yellow fruits (peach, apricot). Very low bitterness, present but integrated acidity, and a moderate body. This is the Lavazza blend designed for savoring and for palates that dislike bitterness—the antithesis of a Gran Espresso.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Gold Selection so mild compared to other Lavazza blends?
Three reasons:
- 100% Arabica blend — no Robusta, which eliminates thecharacteristic bitterness and very dense crema typical of classic Italian blends.
- Premium selection of Arabica — origins Central America (Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador) and Ethiopia, beans washed and sorted by hand to eliminate defects.
- Refined medium roast — no burning, which preserves the floral and honeyed aromas of the original bean.
Gold Selection is the Lavazza blend closest to a specialty coffee — perfect for discovering the "3rd wave" sensibility while retaining the Italian signature.
Which Lavazza blend should I choose if I don't like bitterness?
Two excellent Lavazza choices with low bitterness :
- Gold Selection — intensity 4/10, 100% Arabica, delicate floral and honey notes. The mildest. Target: tasting, discerning palates, filter coffee maker.
- Crema Classica 1 kg — intensity 6/10, mild Arabica-Robusta blend, notes of honey and dried fruit. Round and indulgent. Target: everyday use without bitterness.
If you prefer more body while keeping low bitterness, go for Super Crema (60% Arabica, honeyed notes).
Is the Gold Selection suitable for my entry-level bean-to-cup machine?
Yes, but with caution. Entry-level machines (Philips 3200, De'Longhi Magnifica S) are designed to extract robust blends that are forgiving of imperfections. A 100% premium Arabica like Gold Selection requires more finesse .
- Adjust the grind a little finer (5/10 instead of 6-7/10) to compensate for the absence of Robusta.
- Increase the dose (10g instead of 8g) for a more pronounced body.
- Lower the temperature if your machine allows it (93°C instead of 95°C) to preserve the floral aromas.
For the best experience , this blend shines on high-end machines (Jura Z-Series, De'Longhi Prima Donna) or in manual espresso (lever machine).
Can I prepare the Gold Selection in a filter coffee maker?
Absolutely yes, and it's even recommended. Gold Selection gives excellent results with the gentle method .
- V60 / Chemex — medium-coarse grind filter extraction, ratio 60 g/L, time 3-4 min. Reveals floral aromas.
- Classic filter coffee maker — Melitta, Moulinex. Medium grind, 60 g/L ratio. Ideal for breakfast.
- French Press — coarse grind, 4 min infusion. Rounder body, more enveloping aromas.
These methods reveal the subtle notes that a highly concentrated espresso can mask. Try several methods to discover your favorite.
