Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Swiss Water Process decaffeination method?
The Swiss Water Process (also called the water method or natural method) is a decaffeination process without chemical solvents :
- The green beans (before roasting) are soaked inhot water to dissolve the caffeine and aromatic compounds.
- The water passes through an activated carbon filter which captures only caffeine (large molecule), allowing the aromas to pass through.
- The beans are re-immersed in this water saturated with aromas but devoid of caffeine — they reabsorb the aromas without re-consuming the caffeine.
Advantages vs chemical methods (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate): superior preservation of aromas, absence of chemical residues, natural process certifiable as organic.
What is the exact residual caffeine level?
< 0.1% residual caffeine — in accordance with the EU standard for decaffeinated coffee (European regulation requiring ≤ 0.1% caffeine to be labeled "decaffeinated"). In practice, DEQAFEINATUS N°7 typically contains 0.04-0.08% caffeine, or ~2-4 mg per 30 mL cup, compared to 60-80 mg in a regular espresso. Therefore, consuming 10 DEQAFEINATUS espressos is equivalent to less than one caffeinated espresso.
Is DEQAFEINATUS suitable for pregnant/breastfeeding women?
Yes — DEQAFEINATUS is suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people on medication incompatible with caffeine, children and teenagers, and people sensitive to sleep. Caution: always consult a healthcare professional for any specific medical questions. Decaf coffee is not completely caffeine-free (~2-4 mg/cup), but the amounts are negligible for health.
How does it differ from a decaf coffee from the supermarket?
Two major differences:
- Extraction method — Delta Q uses the Swiss Water Process, which is more expensive but preserves the aromas. Cheap decaffeinated coffees often use chemical solvents (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate) that degrade the taste.
- Basic green coffee quality — Delta Q starts with quality Arabica-Robusta beans, whereas supermarket decafs often start with cheap beans considered lost for caffeinated blends.
Result: true taste pleasure preserved with DEQAFEINATUS.
Affordable format available?
Yes — for regular use, choose DEQAFEINATUS N°7 box of 40 capsules or DEQAFEINATUS N°7 pack of 100 capsules. The 10-capsule format is optimal for trials, gifts, and occasional use.
