Taste Profile
Delta Q Deqafeinatus N°7 is the signature decaffeinated blend in the Delta Q range. The name "Deqafeinatus" is a poetic Latin contraction evoking the idea of caffeine-free coffee —a characteristic of the Delta Q brand-naming tradition (the systematic prefix "Q": Qonvictus, Qharacter, Qharisma, Qalidus, Deqafeinatus). Composition: a balanced Arabica-Robusta, with a majority of Arabica for aromatic finesse and Robusta for body and crema —all decaffeinated through natural extraction (generally with water or supercritical CO2, without harsh chemical solvents). The EU standard defines decaffeinated coffee as containing less than 0.1% residual caffeine —in practical terms, 2-5 mg of caffeine per cup compared to 60-110 mg in a classic caffeinated espresso. Medium roasting preserves the aromas after decaffeination (a step that can alter the aromatic compounds if not properly controlled). In the cup: a consistent and long-lasting, a balanced and rounded, dominant notes of milk chocolate, with hints of roasted hazelnut and a touch of roasted cereals. Delta Q's signature for its decaffeinated coffee is "uncompromising in taste" —the goal is to reproduce as faithfully as possible the taste experience of a caffeinated No. 7 coffee, removing only the caffeine. The 40-capsule pack is the optimal intermediate size for households that regularly consume decaf (evenings, pregnant women, those with caffeine sensitivity, those monitoring blood pressure) who want a better price-per-capsule ratio than a 10-capsule discovery box, without having to go for the 100-capsule pack reserved for very heavy consumers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much caffeine is actually left in a decaffeinated capsule?
Less than 0.1% of the coffee's weight according to the EU standard (Directive 1999/4/EC). Specifically:
- Of the 6g of coffee per capsule, this represents a maximum of 6mg of residual caffeine.
- In practice, espresso extraction releases only a portion of this residual caffeine: typically 2-5 mg of caffeine is found per cup.
- Compared to a classic espresso: 60-110 mg per cup (depends on the Arabica-Robusta blend).
Result: Delta Q Deqafeinatus decaffeinated coffee is compatible with evening consumption without significant impact on sleep for the vast majority of consumers.
Decaffeination — a natural or chemical process?
Delta usesnatural extraction, without harsh chemical solvents. Two main methods are employed in the industry:
- Water extraction (Swiss Water Process) — the green beans are soaked in water which dissolves the caffeine (and aromas), then the water passes through an activated carbon filter which retains only the caffeine. The aroma-laden water is reused to extract caffeine from the next batch.
- Supercritical CO2 extraction — CO2 under high pressure becomes supercritical (state between liquid and gas) and selects only caffeine, without altering the aromas.
Delta does not publicly disclose the exact method used for Deqafeinatus, but guarantees a "natural process." The result: preserved flavors versus low-quality decaffeinated coffee made with dichloromethane.
40-capsule pack vs 10-capsule box vs 100-capsule pack — which format to choose?
Three formats are available at Cafemalin depending on your intended use:
- Box of 10 capsules (#33475) — discovery size to test the blend, least advantageous.
- Pack of 40 capsules (this product) — a balanced, intermediate size with a good. Consumption of approximately one month for a household consuming 1-2 decafs per day.
- Pack of 100 capsules (#34164) — economical size for heavy users (2-4 decafs/day), best price/capsule ratio . Consumption of ~1-2 months.
Recommendation: first test with a box of 10 capsules, then switch to a pack of 40 or 100 depending on actual consumption.
Suitable for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and those with high blood pressure?
Generally recommended as an alternative to caffeinated coffee for:
- Pregnant women — the WHO and French authorities recommend less than 200 mg of caffeine per day during pregnancy. Decaffeinated coffee (~2-5 mg/cup) allows you to continue your coffee ritual without exceeding this limit.
- Breastfeeding women — caffeine passes into breast milk. Decaffeinated coffee greatly reduces the risk to the infant.
- Hypertension/heart problems — caffeine can worsen hypertension. Decaffeinated coffee is compatible with most antihypertensive medications (consult your cardiologist if you have any doubts).
- Insomnia / sleep disorders — suitable for evening use, effectively replaces caffeinated coffee before bedtime.
Consume in moderation like any food product — 2-4 cups/day maximum recommended.
Compatible with systems other than Delta Q?
No — the Delta Q capsule is a proprietary format launched in 2007 by Delta Cafés. It requires a Delta Q machine (Mini Qool, Naya, Iconiq, Qosmo, Milk-Q, Qlip, Qonic). Not compatible with Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Lavazza Blue, Lavazza A Modo Mio, Illy Iperespresso, or other proprietary systems. See available Delta Q machines at Cafemalin.
