Frequently asked questions
What do illy Etiopia coffee beans taste like?
illy gives it an intensity rating of 3 out of 9. It describes a delicate flavour, with floral notes of jasmine, orange blossom and camomile: a light, fragrant cup.
What is the Arabica Selection range?
These are single-origin coffees from illy, always 100% Arabica, with roasting tailored to bring out the notes specific to each terroir. Etiopia comes from Ethiopia, Colombia from the Andes, and Brasile from Cerrado Mineiro in Brazil. They differ from the signature illy blend, which combines nine Arabicas and is used for Classico and Intenso.
How does it differ from Colombia and Brasile?
All are single-origin Arabicas from the Arabica Selection range. Etiopia, rated 3 out of 9, is floral: jasmine, orange blossom and camomile. Colombia, rated 4 out of 9, is delicately acidic, with notes of citrus and red berries; Brasile, rated 5 out of 9, balances acidity and bitterness, with notes of caramel and dried fruit.
Which grind for each brewing method?
illy describes it as ideal for moka pots and filter coffee, and it is also suitable for espresso and cafetières. Grind just before brewing: medium for filter coffee, medium-fine for a moka pot, fine for espresso and coarse for a cafetière.
How many cups does a 250 g tin make?
Around 35 espressos using 7 g each, or 25 double espressos using 10 g each. For filter coffee (around 60 g per litre), a tin makes just over 4 litres of coffee.
How should you store the coffee after opening?
The tin is pressurised: oxygen is removed and replaced with nitrogen, protecting the coffee until it is opened. After opening, illy recommends storing it away from light and heat, preferably in the fridge, with the lid firmly closed. Caution: the rim of the opened tin may be sharp.
