Frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is left in this coffee?
illy states a caffeine content of no more than 0,1%, compared with no more than 1,5% for its non-decaffeinated coffee. This is a decaffeinated coffee, not a coffee with no trace of caffeine: if you have been advised to avoid caffeine completely for medical reasons, consult your doctor.
What do illy Décaféiné coffee beans taste like?
illy rates it 5 out of 9 for intensity, the same as Classico, whose roast it shares. On its French page, the company describes a balanced aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate and toast and a sweet aftertaste.
How does it differ from Classico?
Classico is the same 100% Arabica blend, medium-roasted and with its caffeine retained (no more than 1,5%), with notes of caramel, orange blossom and jasmine. Décaféiné retains its roast and intensity, 5 out of 9, for a cup at any time of day.
Which grind for each brewing method?
illy recommends this coffee for espresso, lungo, moka pots and filter coffee. Grind just before brewing: fine for espresso and lungo, medium-fine for moka pots, medium for filter coffee. If you use a bean-to-cup machine, remember to empty the hopper before switching coffees.
How many cups does a 250 g tin make?
Around 35 espressos using 7 g each, or 25 double espressos using 10 g each. In a moka pot (around 15 g for 3 cups), a tin makes around fifteen pots.
How should you store the coffee after opening?
The tin is pressurised: the air is removed and replaced with nitrogen, protecting the coffee until it is opened. After opening, illy recommends storing it away from light and heat, preferably in the fridge, with the lid firmly closed. Warning: the rim of the opened tin may be sharp.
