Frequently asked questions
What do illy Colombia coffee beans taste like?
illy rates its intensity 4 out of 9. It describes a delicately acidic aroma, with powerful notes of citrus and red fruit: a bright, fruity cup rather than a bitter one.
What is the Arabica Selection range?
How does it differ from Brasile?
Both are single-origin Arabicas from the Arabica Selection range. Colombia, rated 4 out of 9, has more acidity, with notes of citrus and red fruit; Brasile, rated 5 out of 9, balances acidity and bitterness, with notes of caramel and dried fruit.
Which grind for each brewing method?
illy describes it as ideal for moka pots and filter coffee, and it is also suitable for espresso and cafetières. Grind just before brewing: medium for filter coffee, medium-fine for a moka pot, fine for espresso and coarse for a cafetière.
How many cups does a 250 g tin make?
Around 35 espressos using 7 g each, or 25 double espressos using 10 g each. For filter coffee (around 60 g per litre), a tin makes just over 4 litres of coffee.
How should you store the coffee after opening?
The tin is pressurised: oxygen is removed and replaced with nitrogen, protecting the coffee until it is opened. After opening, illy recommends storing it away from light and heat, preferably in the fridge, with the lid firmly closed. Caution: the rim of the opened tin may be sharp.
