illy Lungo Intenso — 10 Nespresso compatible capsules

Most Nespresso lungo-compatible capsules use a medium roast to preserve the aromatic balance during long extractions (100-120 ml). A dark roast can lead to excessive bitterness during long extractions if the grind and dose are not perfectly adjusted.

illy is challenging this agreement with Lungo Intenso for two reasons:

• User demand — many enthusiasts prefer the long volume (office coffee, large morning coffee) but want the full-bodied character of a dark roast espresso.
• Technical mastery illy — the selected 9 origin Arabica blend supports dark roasting without becoming bitter in long extraction, the Coffee Lab Trieste adjusts the grind and the dose to preserve the balance.

Result: a powerful and distinctive lungo, a rare thing on the Nespresso compatible capsule market.

Two illy capsules compatible with Nespresso, same blend of 9 origins, dark roast Arabica, but calibrated differently:

• Espresso Forte — calibrated espresso 40 mL. Maximum concentration, body 8/10, dense crema. Intense short format.
• Lungo Intenso (this ref.) — calibrated lungo 110 mL. Long volume, body 7/10 (naturally diluted by volume but preserved by calibration), length on the palate 8/10. Full-bodied long format.

Recommendation: Espresso Forte for concentrated espresso, Lungo Intenso for a longer coffee with a strong character.

No — only Nespresso® Original. The Lungo Intenso capsule respects the standard round geometry of Nespresso Original.
