The Lavazza range compatible with Nespresso Original capsules is Lavazza's response to the world's most widespread ecosystem. Since the expiration of the Nespresso Original patents, several major brands have offered compatible capsules— Lavazza stands out with its recyclable aluminum, offering the same quality of aromatic preservation as official Nespresso capsules.
The standard format is a box of 100 capsules (10 tubes of 10, approximately €28.44), which works out to approximately €0.28 per cup —significantly more economical than official Nespresso capsules (€0.40–€0.80 per cup). The aluminum packaging ensures optimal aroma preservation (oxygen/light barrier) and remains recyclable through Nespresso's recycling programs or standard metal recycling in France.
The range consists of three signature blends named "Maestro": Maestro Classico (medium roast, balanced Arabica + Robusta blend, chocolate notes) is the absolute best-seller (1,300+ Cafemalin). Maestro Lungo is optimized for a longer espresso (75-110 ml). Ristretto offers a darker roast for a full-bodied and intense.
Important: These capsules are compatible with Nespresso Original machines ONLY (Essenza, Inissia, Pixie, CitiZ, Creatista, Lattissima, etc.). Do Lavazza capsules work on Nespresso Vertuo machines?
No. Lavazza Nespresso-compatible capsules are designed for the Nespresso Original only (Essenza, Inissia, Pixie, CitiZ, Creatista, Lattissima machines, etc.).
Nespresso Vertuo machines use a proprietary system with barcodes and centrifugation — no third-party compatible capsules exist for Vertuo because the patents are still active. For Vertuo, you must use official Nespresso Vertuo capsules.
Which Lavazza Nespresso-compatible capsule should I choose to start with?

Are these Lavazza capsules recyclable?
Yes, the capsules are made of recyclable aluminum. Three options are available in France:
- Nespresso recycling program — drop-off at a Nespresso boutique, PickUp Point, or order a free collection bag (accepts all compatible aluminum capsules)
- Metal recycling — throw them in the yellow bin or metal bin after emptying the coffee grounds
- Home composting — empty the coffee grounds into the compost bin, separate the empty aluminum capsule into the metal recycling bin
Difference between Maestro Classico and Ristretto?
Maestro Classico (best-seller) — medium roast, balanced Arabica + Robusta blend, moderately dense crema, sweet chocolate notes. Medium body. The safe choice for an affordable Italian espresso.
Ristretto — darker roast, more intense body, denser crema, more pronounced roasted notes. For lovers of strong Italian-style coffee, a traditional, tight espresso.
