Delta Q EpiQ N°14 is the extra-intense capsule that marks the top of the standard Delta Q range — rated 14/13 on the scale Cafemalin (exceeding the usual rating). It features an Arabica-Robusta blend with a strong Robusta dominance (a signature proportion for maximum body and crema), and is dark roasted in Campo Maior, Portugal. In the cup, it's a powerful and enveloping espresso with dominant notes of intense dark chocolate (close to 90% cocoa), deep toast (from a slow and intense roast), and woody notes (cedar, blond tobacco). The body is maximal , the crema very dense and persistent , a dark brown color, the bitterness pronounced and structured , the sweetness low , and the finish very long and woody . An epic profile , as its name suggests—the ultimate traditional Italian-style espresso , Delta Q version. It's the choice for true connoisseurs of full-bodied espressos, regulars at Roman bars, or those who appreciate the Southern Italian style (Naples, Sicily). Not well-suited to palates sensitive to bitterness, overly diluted milk-based drinks, or occasional coffee drinkers. The N°15 Mythiq blend takes it even further in an exclusive edition. Why the intensity 14/13 — what does "exceeding the scale" mean?
Delta Q built its original system on a scale from 1 to 14 (now the most widely used scale). EpiQ 14 is positioned at the top of this standard scale—no current Delta Q blend goes higher (15 Mythiq is an exclusive, extra-intense cousin). At Cafemalin, we use a /13 scale across different capsule systems (Delta Q, Lavazza Blue, Nespresso compatible, etc.) to facilitate customer comparison. The 14/13 display therefore means that EpiQ surpasses our Cafemalin —it's the visual signal of its maximum strength.
EpiQ No. 14 vs Qharisma No. 12 — the real difference?
Two different levels of very intense :
- Qharisma N°12 — very intense yet balanced, with notes of intense dark chocolate and spices. Approachable strength — strong bitterness but with lingering chocolate notes.
- EpiQ N°14 — extra-intense, more Robusta, notes of dark chocolate + deep roast + wood. Assertive power — very pronounced bitterness, massive body.
If you already enjoy Qharisma and are looking for even more body, EpiQ is the logical choice. If you're unsure about your tolerance for strong bitterness, stick with Qharisma.
EpiQ No. 14 vs Mythiq No. 15 — what's the difference?
A subtle but real difference. Both blends exceed the standard range.
- EpiQ N°14 — the latest blend in the standard range, a very intense classic. Pronounced woody notes.
- Mythiq N°15 — exclusive edition, extra-intense beyond the scale. Notes of powerful dark chocolate + deep roast + spices. The most intense in the entire Delta Q catalog.
Choice based on bitterness tolerance and aromatic preference: EpiQ is more woody, Mythiq is spicier.
Is EpiQ suitable for use in milk-based drinks?
Not recommended as a latte, but fine as a dry cappuccino. The EpiQ blend is too strong to handle a lot of milk without becoming bitter or unbalanced. Recommendations:
- Latte (150-200 mL milk) — not recommended. The coffee will be too overpowering in the first third and then become bitter at the bottom. Qonvictus No. 5 or Aqtivus No. 8.
- Dry cappuccino (60-80 mL milk max) — possible. The coffee retains its character, softened by the sweetness of the milk. Neapolitan style.
- Pure espresso — optimal use. This is where the EpiQ reveals its full personality.
Compatible with systems other than Delta Q?
No — the Delta Q capsule is a proprietary format launched in 2007 by Delta Cafés. It requires a Delta Q machine (Mini Qool, Naya, Iconiq, Qosmo, Milk-Q, Qlip, Qonic). Not compatible with other proprietary systems. See Delta Q machines available at Cafemalin.
