Yes. Since February 2016, the French brand Carte Noire (founded in 1978 by René Monnier) has been a subsidiary of the Italian group Lavazza, acquired for approximately €750 million. The European Commission mandated this sale during the merger of Mondelez's coffee business with Douwe Egberts. Carte Noire retains its French positioning and its historic factory in Lavérune (Hérault), which was modernized by Lavazza.

Yes. The Carte Noire is designed for Professional range automatic espresso machines with grinders , at home as well as in the office, and for professional machines in cafes and restaurants: DeLonghi, Jura, Saeco, Melitta, Krups, Nivona, Miele, Siemens, etc.

A 1 kg bag yields approximately 140 espressos at 7 g of coffee per cup. Adjust the grind to a fairly fine consistency for an extraction time of 25 to 30 seconds.

Coffee beans retain their aromas for about a month after opening if stored properly:

• Original packaging — reseal carefully after each use (one-way valve on the Carte Noire)
• Dry and cool place — not in the refrigerator (humidity) or freezer (thermal shock) — ideal kitchen cupboard, 15-20 °C
• Protected from light — UV rays destroy aromatic oils
• Protected from strong odors — coffee absorbs surrounding odors

For optimal use, consume the bag within one month of opening. For office use or heavy consumption, several small 1 kg bags are preferable to one large bag.

Carte Carte Noire Professional whole bean coffee can be ground on demand by your automatic grinder or mill. Recommended settings depending on the method:

• Automatic espresso machine (home, office) — fine to extra fine. Grinder setting to minimum or position 2-3/10.
• Manual espresso machine with piston/portafilter — fine, tight grind. Extraction time: 25-30 seconds for 30 ml.
• Filter coffee maker — medium grind . Middle grinder setting.
• Piston French press — coarse grind . Maximum grinder setting.

For a Carte Noire Professional espresso, aim for 25 to 30 seconds of extraction for 25-30 ml in the cup with a dense and persistent crema.
