Passionale is Lavazza's interpretation of traditional Italian espresso on the A Modo Mio, and the most full-bodied in the range among 100% Arabica coffees, with an intensity of 11 out of 13.Its unique characteristic is precisely that it achieves this strength while remaining 100% Arabica : where most intense Italian blends call for Robusta for body and crema, Lavazza achieves this through the selection of origins — Brazil, South Asia, Central and South America —and a deep, dark roast . This explains its positioning: strength without the rusticity.
In the cup, the profile described by the brewery is "balanced, full-bodied, and smooth" —three words that seem contradictory but perfectly capture the result: a dense body and a persistent crema, dominated by notes of chocolate and a slightly caramelized touch from the roasting process, with very low acidity and a present but restrained bitterness. The length on the palate is one of the pointblend's strengths, with a chocolatey finish that lingers long after the cup is finished
What changes—and doesn't change—with the 36-capsule format. The official net quantity of this box is 270g, or 7.5g per capsule : exactly the same as the 16-capsule box. The coffee in the cup is therefore virtually identical; only the quantity per box changes. This is a significant difference compared to some of the economy formats in the range, where the weight per capsule is reduced. Here, the longer format makes no compromises on the dose; it simply improves the cost per cup and reduces the frequency of refills.

What is the difference with the box of 16 Passionale capsules?
There is no difference in the coffee itself, only in the quantity. Both boxes contain the same Passionale blend, at the same dose of 7.5g per capsule — the official net quantity of this box is 270g for 36 capsules, which is the same unit weight as the 16-capsule format. The taste, intensity and extraction are therefore identical.
- Box of 36 (this reference) — lower cost per cup, fewer refills. Suitable for regular or a household with several coffee drinkers.
- Box of 16 — trial or apppoint, convenient for discovering the blend or varying the references without stockpiling.
It's worth clarifying this, because in other products in the range the long format comes with a reduced paper weight per capsule. This is not the case here.
Are these capsules compatible with my A Modo Mio machine?

Compatible machines : Jolie, Jolie&Milk, Jolie Evo, Voicy, Deséa, Idola, Tiny, Tiny Eco, Piccina, Minù. If you are unsure about an older model, the name is located under the machine or on the back of the drip tray.

How are compostable capsules disposed of?
capsules Modo Mio are compostable and certified according to the EN 13432-2002 standard by TÜV Austria — but this certification is for industrial composting, which has an important practical consequence:
- Do not put them in a home composter — the temperature conditions of a garden compost are not sufficient to break them down.
- Do not throw them away with green garden waste
- Refer to your local council's sorting guidelines : bio-waste collection channels vary from one community to another, and not all accept compostable packaging.
If there isn't a suitable recycling program near you, the capsule should be disposed of with your regular household waste. The coffee grounds, however, can be composted or easily used as mulch around plants if you open the capsule.

How long does a box of 36 capsules last?
36 espressos, one capsule per cup. Battery life benchmarks:
- 1 espresso per day — a little over a month.
- 2 espressos per day — approximately 18 days.
- Household of two people, 2 cups each — approximately 9 days.
- Weekend use only — two to three months.
In terms of storage, the capsule is hermetically sealed : unlike whole bean or ground coffee, which oxidizes within a few weeks of opening the package, coffee capsules retain their aroma as long as the capsule remains unopened. A box of 36 capsules can therefore be kept without worry until the date indicated on the packaging, stored at room temperature and away from light.
Is Passionale the strongest A Modo Mio blend?
No—but it's the most full-bodied of the 100% Arabica blends in the range, and that's precisely what makes it unique. TheIntenso surpasses it in intensity, thanks to the use of Robusta. Passionale achieves its 11 out of 13 without using any Robusta, solely through the selection of origins and a dark roast.
To give you an idea of the range, from the strongest to the mildest:
- Intenso — an Arabica and Robusta, the strongest in the range, with notes of cocoa and spices. The classic Italian espresso, more rustic.
- Passionale (this reference) — 100% Arabica, dark roast, notes of chocolate and caramel. Dense body without rusticity.
- Delizioso — also 100% Arabica , but with a floral and slightly sweet character . The middle choice.
- Soave and Dolce — the softer profiles of the range, the second being designed for the elongated cup .
Recommendation: Passionale if you are looking for intensity with aromatic finesse, Intenso if you are looking for maximum Italian-style power.
Is there a decaf version or other 36-capsule formats?
Yes to both:
- Decaffeinated — Lavazza DEK Cremoso A Modo Mio, for evening coffee.
- Another box of 36 — Lavazza Dolce A Modo Mio 36 capsules , with a mild profile , the opposite of Passionale. Note: its weight per capsule is lower , which is not the case here.
- Larger volume — the capsule pack Modo Mio contains several boxes for heavy consumers.
