Carte Noire Espresso Lungo N°6 Classique is Carte Noire's Classique lungo in a Nespresso®-compatible capsule, designed for a lungo of 100 to 120 ml (a long coffee). 100% Arabica from Central America, with a dark roast and an intensity of 6 out of 13: a shade milder than Espresso N°7, retaining aromatic finesse in a larger cup without turning bitter.
In the cup (100–120 ml lungo): a supple body, caramel notes and a floral hint, the natural sweetness of 100% Arabica and a lingering finish. A French-style long coffee for those who enjoy smoothness and finesse, in the café-crème style.
Signature Lavazza since 2016: Carte Noire has belonged to the Lavazza group since the acquisition was completed at the end of February 2016, for around 750 million euros. It remains France's leading supermarket coffee brand, according to the group, and its capsules are produced in France at the historic Lavérune factory near Montpellier.

Frequently asked questions
Which Nespresso® machines are compatible?
All Nespresso® Original machines — older and newer generations. Compatible with: Essenza, Essenza Mini, Pixie, CitiZ, Inissia, U, Prodigio, Lattissima, Lattissima Touch/One, KitchenAid Nespresso, as well as Krups, Magimix and De'Longhi versions. Aluminium capsule in the Nespresso® Original format.

How does it differ from Carte Noire Espresso N°7?
The two products offer complementary profiles:
- Lungo N°6 Classique (this product) — intensity 6/13, a lungo of 100 to 120 ml. Caramel and floral notes. For those who enjoy French-style long coffee (in the café-crème style).
- Espresso N°7 Classique — smooth and balanced, intensity 7/13, a 40 ml espresso. Chocolate and citrus notes. For those who enjoy French-style espresso.
Choose according to your preferred cup: lungo (N°6) or short espresso (N°7). Some households keep both boxes to vary their coffee according to their mood.
Why choose a lungo rather than a short espresso?
The lungo format (100–120 ml) caters for several preferences:
- French café-crème culture — many French people prefer a longer coffee than a short Italian espresso, with or without added milk.
- More time to enjoy your coffee — a lungo is enjoyed over 5–10 minutes, ideal for an office break or late morning.
- Greater perceived sweetness — dilution naturally softens bitterness and brings out the blend's sweet and fruity notes.
- Standard cup volume — a lungo fills a medium-sized cup (100–120 ml) without the need to add hot water.
The N°6 capsule has a dose and grind calibrated for a 100–120 ml extraction — unlike an espresso brewed for longer, which becomes bitter and unbalanced.
Is Carte Noire really French or Italian today?
Carte Noire is a French brand, owned by the Italian Lavazza group since February 2016. In detail:
- French brand origins — founded in 1978 by René Monnier, it passed to Jacobs Suchard (1982), Kraft and then Mondelēz, which merged its coffee business with Douwe Egberts in 2015.
- Acquired by Lavazza in 2016 — the Italian Lavazza group (Turin, founded in 1895) acquired Carte Noire for around 750 million euros, after the European Commission required the sale as a condition of the merger.
- Production in France — the historic Lavérune factory (Hérault, near Montpellier) produces the brand's ground coffee, pods and capsules. Carte Noire's signature recipes are preserved.
The result: French expertise preserved, with Lavazza's capital and international strategy. Carte Noire is now France's leading supermarket coffee brand, according to the Lavazza group.
Any brewing recommendations?
100–120 ml lungo programme (long coffee button) on your Nespresso® machine — the capsule's 5,5 g dose is calibrated for this volume. Extraction time ~35–40 seconds, machine temperature 90–92 °C, pressure 19 bar (Nespresso® Original standard).
Café-crème alternative — first brew the Lungo capsule into a 200 ml cup, then add 20–30 ml of hot, unfrothed milk or a spoonful of pouring cream. The mild N°6 Arabica blend works very well with milk.
Iced coffee version — brew the Lungo capsule directly over ice cubes in a tall glass. Add vanilla, caramel or hazelnut syrup if you wish. Refreshing in summer.
Avoid — using the short 40 ml espresso programme with this N°6 capsule optimised for lungo: the coffee would be under-extracted and tart. For a short espresso, choose Carte Noire Espresso N°7 instead.
How do I recycle aluminium capsules?
The capsules are made of aluminium, a recyclable metal:
- Yellow recycling bin — since 2023, recycling guidelines in France have covered all packaging: put the capsules in with packaging, checking your local council's guidelines.
- Coffee grounds — if you can, empty the capsule: the grounds can go into home compost or food waste.
