Made from 100% Arabica beans, it features a balanced medium —milder than the Espresso N°7 version to reveal its aromatic finesse in a larger volume without becoming bitter.
In the cup (lungo 100-120 mL) : warm amber color , smooth body, signature notes of yellow fruits (apple, white peach) , milk chocolate , and hints of toasted grains . Naturally sweet with no added sugar thanks to 100% Arabica beans, bright and balanced acidity, and a lingering finish . The French-style lungo for lovers of roundness and finesse , like a café au lait.
Lavazza brand has been a signature brand since 2016 : the acquisition of Carte Noire by the Lavazza group— finalized on February 29, 2016, for €700-750 million from Jacobs Douwe Egberts—made Carte Noire the number one coffee brand in France for retail sales. Roasting continues to be carried out in France at thehistoric Lavérune factory near Montpellier. The signature blends (N°6 Lungo, N°7 Espresso) are being maintained unchanged by Lavazza management.

Difference with Carte Noire Espresso N°7?
Both options offer two complementary espresso profiles:
- Lungo N°6 Classic (this ref.) — balanced and mild, intensity 6/10, long extraction 100-120 mL. Notes of yellow fruit, milk chocolate, and cereals. For lovers of a long French-style coffee (like a café au lait).
- Classic Espresso No. 7 — full-bodied and balanced, intensity 7/10, short extraction 40 ml. Notes of dark chocolate, spices, and roasted dried fruit. For lovers of Italian espresso with a French twist.
Choose according to your cup preference: lungo (No. 6) or strong espresso (No. 7). Some households keep both boxes to vary depending on their mood.
Why choose a Lungo format rather than a short espresso?
The Lungo format (100-120 mL) caters to several preferences:
- French café-crème culture — many French people prefer a longer coffee than a tight Italian espresso, with or without added milk.
- Extended consumption — a lungo is best enjoyed for 5-10 minutes, ideal for an office break or late morning.
- Superior perceived sweetness — dilution naturally reduces bitterness, revealing the sweet and fruity notes of the blend.
- Standard cup volume — the lungo fills a medium cup (100-120 mL) without needing to add hot water.
Capsule No. 6 is calibrated dose and grind for 100-120 mL extraction — unlike a "stretched" espresso which becomes bitter and unbalanced.
Is Carte Noire really French or Italian today?
Both — Carte Noire has officially been an Italian-French brand since February 29, 2016. Details:
- Originally a French brand — founded in 1978 by Antoine Monnier, initially a subsidiary of the Belgian group Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE), itself resulting from the merger of Mondelēz + DE Master Blenders 1753.
- Acquisition by Lavazza in 2016 — the Italian group Lavazza (Turin, founded 1895) acquired Carte Noire for ~700 million euros from JDE, as part of a forced divestment by European competition authorities after the merger creating JDE.
- Roasting remains in France — the historic factory in Lavérune (Hérault, near Montpellier) continues to produce the entire retail range. The signature Carte Noire are preserved.
The result: preserved French expertise, capital and international strategy for Lavazza. Since 2016, Carte Noire has been the No. 1 coffee brand in France for retail.
Preparation recommendations?
Lungo/Extended program 100-120 mL (long button) on your Nespresso® machine — the 5.5 g capsule dose is calibrated for this volume. Extraction ~35-40 seconds, machine temperature 90-92 °C, pressure 19 bar (Nespresso® Original standard).
Coffee-and-cream alternative — first pour the Lungo capsule into a 200 mL cup, then add 20-30 mL of hot, non-foamed milk or a spoonful of cream. The mild Arabica No. 6 blend pairs very well with milk.
Iced coffee version — extract the Lungo capsule directly onto ice cubes in a tall glass. Optionally, add vanilla/caramel/hazelnut syrup. Refreshing for summer.
Avoid the short espresso 40ml program on this N°6 lungo-optimized capsule; the extraction would be under-extracted and acidic. For a strong espresso, choose Carte Carte Noire Espresso N°7.
Recycling of aluminum capsules?
