Prolait

Prolait is a long-established French brand specializing in skimmed milk powder for vending machines and professional Ho.Re.Ca. applications (hotels, restaurants, cafes). Positioned in the professional vending channel since its inception , the brand is the go-to choice for complementing cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolates, and milk-based drinks served in vending machines.

In the 2000s, Prolait was acquired by the Italian group Prontofoods SpA (also owner of Ristora).

• Pontedera (Pisa, Tuscany) — 2 sites (Crastan)

All Prontofoods production remains in Italy. Prolait skimmed milk powder is produced according to European food quality and is intended primarily for the European vending and Ho.Re.Ca markets.

milk powder is used in vending machines and professional machines to prepare:

• Hot chocolates — cocoa + milk in instant hot beverage dispensers

The granular formulation allows for rapid dissolution in hot water without lumps, a regular volumetric dosing compatible with the augers of dispensers, and a consistent creamy texture in the cup.

Prolait is designed for professional use (vending machines, professional Ho.Re.Ca. machines, catering). The 1 kg format is suitable for refilling vending machines.

For domestic household use , Prolait can be used:

• Manually, by adding a teaspoon of powder to a mug of hot water or coffee — quick creamy texture
• In an automatic coffee machine with a powdered milk reservoir (rare in homes, more common in small offices)

For typical home use (espresso machine with steam wand, filter coffee maker), fresh milk as it provides a better texture for latte art. Prolait is optimized for professional volumes and volumetric dosing.

The Prolait range is based on skimmed milk powder — the formulation best suited to the vending channel (long shelf life, controlled cost, consistent texture). Whole milk powder is available from other Prontofoods group brands or as private label products.

Prolait powdered milk can be kept for several months after opening , provided it is stored correctly:

• Packaging must be properly resealed after each use (lid, clip, zip-lock bag)
• Dry, cool place, away from moisture (the number one enemy of powdered milk: it creates clumps and promotes mold growth)
• Away from direct sunlight and heat sources
• Do NOT refrigerate (condensation will occur every time you open it).
• Respect the best before date indicated on the packaging (generally 12-18 months after production)

For intensive vending use, the turnover is rapid (several kg/week) and storage is generally not a problem.
